Ubuntu works well enough and is very familiar if you've used it before but it does feel considerably more bloated than raspbian in my experience

Ubuntu is good for beginners but really any linux distro works fine, personally I use Kali and works like a charm and has more benefits then Ubuntu but both have a friendly user interface for beginners before I was using kali since launch ( 2013 ) I was using the original Slackware from 1992 I believe but that's probably to hard anyways. 

 

Ubuntu would go good but Kali in my personal opinon is better :P  

 

The whole point of linux is to have a free, open source operating system with alot of other factors that are obviously in linux rather in literally any other proprietary operating system so don't get stuff like Elementary OS because yeah it might look appealing its literally defying what linux is intended and is just wasting money when you could get literally the same experience for free.

Donating is good though :)   

My current code projects

  • C#/OpenGL ( using OpenTK graphics library API ) KnightsRealm ( unfinished, WIP plan on releasing on steam maybe a mobile port idk ) 2d topdown pixel art based game with medieval themes, sorcery, dragons, open world
  • C++ crypter ( if your into cryptography, I plan on releasing this on my website later :P ) 
  • C#/OpenGL ( OpenGL for UI ) fan/light controller for my room w/ raspberry pi and some mechanical motors and stuff :D


Current repair projects

------------------------------

  • My dreadful receiver ( a capacitor blew ) 
  • working on a PC from a client, CPU died within the system, seems like a short, replaced CPU and awaiting payment before I ship it back 
  • my old 1tb sas drive for my NAS, some blemishes or something on the PCB need to clear that back out, if it doesn't work i'll need to scrap it ( already backed up all my stuff thankfully )

It stayed sorta hidden so I didn't catch it...

Still, I guess that's another option.

 

I knew it was free in the beginning i just got misinformed is all.

 

Elementary OS though it might have a nice GUI it still is bloated af so truthfully I use kali, and personally I love kali linux. I've been using it since the release date ( 2013 ). Besides Kali is a little bit more for advanced linux users.

Why Kali though, I understand from a security expert standpoint but I have had a few severe issues with it and technically Linux Mint or Manjaro has better online customer support and is more user-friendly in general.

That's not my criteria for an operating system, and there's plenty of youtube videos involving kali linux.

So there is plenty of support, there's an entire forum with thousands of users that is soley based on kali.

yeh but its not like he is a security professional. he wants an OS to do coding. and it seems he is quite new to Linux.

Mate, thats why I told him to not get kali, I said it was my personal favorite OS. I told him Ubuntu, Mint or perhaps even elementary os if the GUI is the most important thing would be best for him.
