Budget big computer speakers?

Gershy13

Im looking for a set of speakers that would sound good for watching youtube, gaming, editing videos and audio, listening to music, etc.

I want something with nice big drivers (4" or 5") and preferably active, but if they are passive, suggest me an amp too?

I will be doing some editing occasionally, so nothing too coloured, but all the editing i do isnt really for professional use so they dont need to be professional studio monitors. even a standard pair of bookshelf speakers will do.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Gershy13

I love my Behringer Truth 2031A. Big and beefy. They're "Studio monitors" but not the greatest in their high end response.

But they'll bring the house down for most anything I throw at them. Back them into a USB audio interface and you'll be great.

As far as budget, the Dayton Audio bookshelfs were generally considered to be the cheapest possible, good bookshelf speaker.

Then as far as an amp, these little Kinter units have the Tripath amp in them. I've never personally heard bad things about them and having recommended them to a couple people they have absolutely loved them. There's a slew of similarly priced cheap amps that sometimes don't come with a free 12v power supply or fail prematurely, ect. These seem to be fairly consistent.

I have Micca bookshelf speakers for my TV, I spent extra for all the units with crossovers in them. They offer some powered speakers and have a pretty big product line now, I think in 2014 they were like $20 less but their size and sound is really good. I'd go check like the audiophile reddit or something, usually there's like a quick list posted somewhere that's pretty much just like "these cheap speakers don't suck, buy any of these".

Sometimes you can find used studio monitors for really good prices, I've heard stories of people scooping them at goodwill for like $10 too but that's all going to depend on your area.

I think they're a bit TOO big lol. Probably max around 6.5" unless I can think of a creative method to fit 2 8" speakers and 3 monitors on a desk lol.

Also they are quite a bit over my price range at 130£ x2

Thanks... Only problem is the speakers will be hard to get as I'm in the UK and would need to import them...

Parts express would cost quite a bit to ship to the UK.

I have these speakers, there the edifier R2600 2.0 studio 6 monitors. there 124 RMS wattage. and for the price i think these are the best speaker set that you can buy today. i think i payd about €170 for them.

they are very good, sounds quality is outstanding in this price point and the bass is full and warm, even if i set the volume to max there is no distortion in the sound.

in my opinion a very good set for a good price. i have searched for a wile to find a good speaker set and i couldn't  find a better set in this price range.

Thanks but they're still a bit too expensive... I could get a nice pair of studio monitors for the same price.

I got SVS ultra bookshelves, not sure what the price difference would be over there.

If you’re able to buy directly from SVS you get a 60 day return if you don’t like them.
