USB hard drive questions

So, I got a recent but old HDD case with a Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200.10(RPM I assume) but is it slower than the USB 2.0 cable I found it with (it has the newer ports, SATA, etc.) and it is in an external HDD case.

The avg speed for that drive for read and write is 100MB/s, usb2 has a maximum of 480MB/s

Thanks, since i have no ports left on my motherboard, that not be a significant bottleneck

USB 2.0 provides only 480Mbps which is roughly 40MBps. Rather use USB 3.0, eSATA, FireWire or something else, because USB 2.0 is very slow by today's standards.

for HDD's, is it still a bottle neck?

Mine has like a square type female connector on the Ext. case does that support 100mb+ if i were to but a USB 3 male to square male connector?

If it has white plastic at the connector it is likely 2.

If it has blue plastic at the connector it is likely 3.

But your HDD case will have to be USB 3 also.

 

we are talking about the square one, but mine is white USB, blue Square
