Weird Mac Feature(?)

Its got to do with magnets. When a magnetised item like the your ipad (for the smart cover) is placed over the right area of your macbook (just over the headphone jack for my mid 2012 macbook) it thinks the lid is closed and puts the computer to sleep. 

For some reason, when I put my iPad over my keyboard, my Mac goes to sleep. There isn't a big problem, so that's why I put it in this section. I posted the video, but I just find it odd that it does this. Can someone explain why? Thought this was interesting, so I that's why I came here.

Both the iPad and the MacBook probably have the sensor for when the cover is closed.

Possible, but generally the sensor is built into the hinge, is it not?

I thought that too. It must be the sensors because when I turn it the other way (camera facing outwards), it doesn't make the computer sleep.
