Hey everyone,
So Linus just released a video about running Freesync with an Nvidia GPU if you have a Ryzen chip. This got me thinking:
I currently have an r9 280x and have ordered a new 1080ti that will take its place shortly. Is it possible for me to run Freesync by placing my 280x in another slot and running my display through that while rendering off my 1080ti? If so, what would the power consumption be as I only have a 650W psu.

Cheers,
SuperJimbo:)

Ain't nothin' to it. Gangsta rap made me do it.B|

for power consumption figures.. we'll need someone to do actual testing, but i imagine it wont be putting severe load on the AMD card, so it'll sit around idle power draw.

as for that on a 650W power supply, off the top of my head that should be at least sufficient, but you're already in the terretory of needing to get lucky with the right number of pci-e connectors.

You're gonna need some custom stuff to run the display output through the other GPU. I think some people on Reddit were talking about working on a project like that but it hasn't been finalized.

At any rate, that wouldn't be possible on your's because the 280x doesn't support freesync.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
