Hi

i'm looking for fans for my build and i'm targeting the Gentle Typhoon as there seems to be some kind of unanimity around them...

But i'm also looking for fans with low power consumption (around 1/2 watts), but can't find the info about the GT. Would be appreciated if someone could check that for me.

Or recommend a good reference from others brands as good as the GT.

Thanks

To reduce it while idling. Simple as that ^^

Edit lol 37 € a single fan ^^ Nope won't spend that much for a low consumption cooling solution...

Doesn't have to be under 1 watt like i said 2 is ok too, 2.5...

Also if it can help, i don't care about noise ^^

l think i'll go with the SilentWings 3, they have good specs on every level i think

50.5 CFM / 85.79 m3/h

1.79 mm H2O

16.4 db

1.44 W

Only downside is they're not PWM... but with the specs above i'm still not sure if it's really mandatory...

Edit: Oh they even have a PWM version, sweet...

prolly cant find due to the manufacturer was NiDec (not Sythe)

for the AP15 (GT1850): startup: 0.36A @ 12V (=4.32W); running: 0.083A @12V (=1W).

You know, your fans are least power consuming part. Even at idle. Appreciate the thought. But if you aren't willing to put money in now to save money overall, I don't think it really matters that much.

this is ridiculous. what are you running? my guess is everything above a raspberry pi and you really should car about the fans power consumption. but if you must then maybe go full passive and turn it off in idle doesnt get lower than that.

but that would require a beefy brick of a heat sink and seeing as 37 bucks seem to be to much already i doubt you can really go passive with anything below that but then again idk what youre running

"You know it'll clock down as soon as it hits 40°C, right?" - "Yeah ... but it doesnt hit 40°C ... ever  😄"

Not sure to understand you guys (english not my language btw)...

I don't understand what are you saying ? Buying low power consumption fans is not good option money wise ? They will fail on me faster ? Sorry

@cluelessgenius same as above, i'm having a hard time to follow...

Yes it won't be RPi lol ^^ I just want to save power while idling, of course the fans will be used most of the time because of gaming, movies... but what's wrong with trying to save energy while idling ?

System will be 8700K/1070TI. Not sure it will make you change your mind as you both seem to think this is ridiculous...

I meant that if you aren't ready use more money to buy better fans, why bother looking for low consumption fans at all. Assuming that you are looking to save in electrical costs overall. Premium fans cost more because they are higher quality. Noctua fans have 6+ year warranty for example.

You can set most fans to really low rpms to 0 rpm mode. The comsumption listed is for max speed. But overall fans still are things that consume least in your system. Idling GPU will still be far more powerhungry. And any savings you make during idle time are overrun pretty quickly while gaming. If this would be server or something running 24/7 doing heavy tasks, then I would understand better.

Hmm idling GPU consume something like 10-20 watts, while a fan around 2/3 watts that you multiply by 6 fans, i won't call this far more power hungry...

PC won't run 24/7 of course, and i can see why you are saying this but even at 8 hours a day i wouldn't say it's useless to save a dozen of watts per hours or even half a dozen.

When you say i can set rpm manually you're talking about PWM fans or not ? I was of the understanding that PWM set the fans speed automatically.

The thing is i'm searching good fans with low power consumption, but maybe i was wrong from the beginning and the two aren't compatible at all..

Would you call these fans "worst"/bad fans (as opposed to the "better fans"):

Half the price of probably "better" fans like Noctua's but they still have very good reviews all over the net.

PWM is just how controlling is done. You are using percentage anyway. But with DC fans the jumps are harder. My fans run at 0-30% while idle and newer go over 80%. I actually own consumption meter. Difference between idle and under full stress load was just 60W. It was at 230W most of the time.

No, software determines any fan settings. PWM is how the fan is powered and how the signal is delivered to the fan. Fans can alternatively be controlled using DC. Whether a fan can be controlled or not depends on the header you're powering it off of -- usually the motherboard.
