Hello,

I would like to upgrade monitor, right now I have a 21 inch TN benq which probably only has 1 positive feature: 2ms response time.

I work with photo editing software and web content creation suites a lot and that really makes me wish for a high quality monitor with decent color rendering and a 16:10 ratio.
I am currently interested in buying a Iiyama xb2485wsu.

The review of this monitor on PRAD.de is nice, however it says that even though the Iiyama specs sheet reports a response time of 5ms, the monitor has an actual avarage response time of 20.7ms without overdrive enabled.

That worries me, I play games when I have some free time, and I play with some competitive FPS player friends which I can not name, will the slow response time be a noticeable thing?

(I will definitely never take the time to switch overdrive on and off every singe time I decide to play - it also creates artifacts apparently)

I can not afford any of the more expensive monitors, I will not be able to buy a faster IPS panel any sooner than 6 months, and that I can not wait. Are all IPS panels this slow?

Before switching to this TN Benq I had another Samsung LCD monitor which had a 20ms response time on the spec sheet, I do not think I have noticed any difference switching from that one to my current Benq but I am not sure of this as I hadn't got the time to compare them. I have read many people do notice such difference, is that true or is it just bullcrap/placebo?

I live in France now, does anyone know anything about 1920x1200 IPS panel price trends and predictions for the year 2014?

Thank you for your time.

There are absolutely no standards for measuring response time so to be honest 20ms can't tell me about how bad the real blurring will be but I'd guess not that much.  Without overdrive 20ms is a bit slow but not that far from the average IPS panel (14-16ms).  If you aren't super competitive with FPS games it probably won't bother you but I can't say for sure without personal experience.  It's worth noting that response time is only a measure of how fast the colors change, and a slow response time will only make fast moving objects blur a little bit while moving.  It's not an actual delay between your input and the colors being signaled to change, which is called input lag.

I'm not sure how many people realise what a short amount of time 20 milliseconds are. I've been on IPS since the start and fps gaming is still completely viable on it. Okay, so if you're joe gamer, you won't notice a difference, but if you play in international competitions and your one of the best in the world, then yeah, you may benefit slightly from a fast response time. In order to notice this though you first need the gaming skill to do so.
