Help seagate 100% usage? even idle?

my hard drive is like several months old, its been having 100% usage recently while launching steam, and the client would usually not respond or act slow..

 

even when idle it sometimes goes 100% usage. If i do a re boot it goes back to 0% usage unless i launch something like steam which is on my secondary hard drive.

 

I've done defrag drive and error checking nothing seem to help...

did you check what process is using up your disk usage, click on processes and see, 

cause it could just be windows update installer or some windows data collector 

  like this

I did but it says 0% disk usage. My OS is installed on my SSD . currently im reformatting the Hard drive it takes a while.........

i am lost, if it is the case that a application is utilizing the drive either very much or the drive isnt performing as it should, 

you will see 100% , Run some benchmarks with crystal mark or HDtune, both are free and see if you get results that you expect  for that drive , 

if you do then it has to be an application just utilizing alot of your disk

Check an anti virus software isn't running a full disk scan.

 

If not, I would advise running a SMART scan. Your manufacturer might have software for this. Also try backing up data, formatting the drive (could consider also creating a new partition table - you can do this with MiniTool Partition Wizard) and seeing if it still happens.

i reformatted the hard drive which took about 2 hrs and everything seems okie till I put stuff back on to it again 

 

now its 100% usage....
