A friend of mine is looking for a laptop that will be suitable for school work and gaming. Looking in the $800 price range. Only things I can really find is an MSI and an Asus TUF, both of which get mostly medocre or poor reviews. Laptops aren’t my forte so I’m not really up on what’s good and what isn’t. Tried to convince her to let me build a tower instead but they ain’t hearing it (I’ll keep working on it :P) but in the case their bent on a laptop what do y’all feel is the best in that range for those uses? Thanks!

how do you feel about the Dell vs this Acer? The main difference I see is the Acer has a 1050ti and the Dell has a 1050. I’m not sure about Acer quality, been a long while since ive owned an Acer product.

NE US. Weight i wouldn’t say is much a concern, a good display is preferred of course (or best for the price range) I guess that ACER has pretty poor battery life. Seeing a HP Omen 15 and a Dell Inpirion 15 7567 that look decent. Idk about the displays tho people say their color gamut it pretty bad.

And and HP pavilion gaming as well. All around the same price and all have 1050ti’s. Seems only the omen comes with an SSD boot and 1TB storage HDD tho. And only the Omen and Pavilion have 8th gen i5’s where the Dell has a 7th gen i5 and a 256gig SSD, no storage HDD. But I’m not sure about quality differences between these and display quality.

Can consider Legion Y530 with 1050TI and 144Hz IPS. It's hard to find gaming laptop with good display, build quality and cooling at this price

Bad cooling, G3 has slightly better cooling but still mediocre

I did look at the legion y530, and the ACER Nitro 5. Seems the Acer comes with a coffee lake i5 and a 1050ti w/SSD. The legion looks good but wondering if it’s worth the extra $250 for it over the Acer since they’re so similarly spec’ed?

Don't just look at specs

Nitro 5 has CPU cooling issue due to outdated cooling design, therefore runs hotter and louder under load. Needs repaste to solve this issue. Also, it has low sRGB IPS display, bulkier+bigger size, slightly worse keyboard and slightly smaller battery.
