Help me upgrade my PC

Alright thanks. Do you think that the 10 series graphic cards will drop in price even more or no ?

depends on two things.

1) will gamers upgrade?

most gamers that bought 1080ti are wealthy, so they will buy 2080ti and dump their old cards. I think there will be an initial price drop after one week 2080ti rtx is available. However, due to the increased demand for 1080ti with the low price, the market will readjust to the current price. If it plummets, it will go down perhaps $30 at max.

2) will miners quit mining?

If crypto continues to decline, there will be a massive dumping of 1080s and 1070s.

But I don't think that will happen.

Save yourself the headache and buy now.

Hello, i've been thinking of upgrading my pc lately. I have i5 6600k, msi gtx 970, asus z170 pro gaming and seasonic 620W 80 bronze Psu. Want to get the 1080ti or 2080 but i am worried that cpu might bottleneck the gpu or that psu might not be sufficient enough to provide power for other components. Planning on buying new components in april such as cpu, mobo and then psu.

edit: I am high end user with 144hz monitor and it irritates me when it drops below certain point. So i want to push the fps.

I think 620W is plenty of power. overclock your CPU and your CPU will not bottleneck 1080ti or the 2080. oc it to 4.7ghz+. I hope you have solid rams as well.

CPU: 8600k @4.9  (1.39v) |  Cooler: NH-U14s | Mobo: Asus Strix z390i | Ram: Gskill DDR4 Trident Z 3600 8GB x 2 16-16-16-36

GPU: Gigabyte G1 1080 GTX | Case: Prodigy ITX | Fans: NH-A14, (exhaust) NH-A12, (intake) NH-A20 (intake)

Samsung EVO 1tb | Samsung EVO 512gb x2 | Intel ssd 128gb

PSU: Powerstation 500W

those are some slow rams buddy. You might wanna aim for 3400 ram kits at cl 14. but to get the most fps for buck, get the GPU first and then upgrade the rams later. If you oced your CPU, it should not bottleneck your CPU.

if you care about graphic quality and less about framerate, 2080. When you get the 2080, it basically means that you are okay with 50~60 fps with ray tracing on. Ray tracing will make your games look more realistic.

if you care only about framerates, you should get the 1080ti since it is cheaper.

here is a formula

speed of 1080ti + better graphic = 2080

price of used 1080ti ($500)+ better graphic = the value of 2080 ($699)

So basically, you are shelling out $200 for ray tracing tech.

The decision is yours.

p.s. 2080 is not worth it since 50~60 fps sux. I would just get the 2080ti but then you'd now have to upgrade the CPU and the entire system...my advice is 1080ti. You hit the limit of a partial upgrade.

So wait, even with ray tracing on playing on 1080p i will have at most 60fps ? Because i wanted to buy the 2080 just because of its tech. But this doesnt seem right that i would have 60 fps on 1080p.

New tech. New tech = lower performance when turning on new super over the top special effects.

When normal gameplay/effects, you will get over 60fps in most games. Turn on super raytracing (approximation) effects, and yes, FPS will tank to 30 or 60 fps.

yeah ray tracing is still pretty premature. Unless you get a rtx 2080ti, expect 50~60ish fps on 1080p. From the benchmarks I've seen, 2080ti still struggles at 70~80fps. For a 144fps dude like yourself, stick to 1080ti and when the next generation ray tracing is available, do a complete new build.

But are we talking here about 1080p gaming or 4k gaming.

Damn didnt know that. I thought that those fps are with ray tracing on at 4k gaming.

Ray tracing is not magic. It's maths. Maths is hard work.

You need 4X or more 2080tis to get real time 60FPS or more with Raytracing, as the Star Wars 3d rollercoaster currently does (Well, it has 4 TitunVs IIRC).

Alright thanks, i will go with the 1080ti then. But as i mentioned earlier about the bottle neck and other components in my pc. I would like to hear your opinion too.

that why nvidia does not do true ray tracing. it cheats. lol.

PSU is fine.

CPU is fine for the majority of single player games. Though some multiplayer games really like 6+ cores.

RAM is ok.

Long story short, buy a cheap 1080ti and have fun. If your playing games known to leverage high core counts then yea get an i7.

CPU: Intel i7 3930k w/OC & EK Supremacy EVO Block | Motherboard: Asus P9x79 Pro  | RAM: G.Skill 4x4 1866 CL9 | PSU: Seasonic Platinum 1000w Corsair RM 750w Gold (2021)|

VDU: Panasonic 42" Plasma | GPU: Gigabyte 1080ti Gaming OC & Barrow Block (RIP)...GTX 980ti | Sound: Asus Xonar D2X - Z5500 -FiiO X3K DAP/DAC - ATH-M50S | Case: Phantek Enthoo Primo White |

Storage: Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSD + WD Blue 1TB SSD | Cooling: XSPC D5 Photon 270 Res & Pump | 2x XSPC AX240 White Rads | NexXxos Monsta 80x240 Rad P/P | NF-A12x25 fans |

down the line, you might want to upgrade to a i7 7700k. newer games demand more cores and threads. For now, I think it is fine to keep it the way it is. But in all honesty, you should just save your money and prepare for a major upgrade in two to three years. Hopefully by that time, we will have ray tracing cards that are far more mature.

For this generation of nvidia cards, its either 2080ti or nothing. It is simply not worth getting anything below 2080ti. But that means, you are willing to shell out $1300.

2 used 1080ti (~$1000) + $300 ray tracing = price of 2080ti

haha you are even paying more premium for ray tracing with the 2080 ti, what a rip off.

But the benchmarks of 2080ti were amazing. Do you have any idea what 1080ti to buy ? Was looking at Evga 1080ti ftw3 gaming icx. Or is there any better choice ?
