Hi there,

Hoping someone can help me with this. I'm trying to sort out a PC used with an engraving machine in a cobblers. I've got the engraving machine sorted but having problems installing additional software, Express Invoice, AV etc. Whenever I try to run the installers I get an error stating "The procedure entry point GetLogicalProcessorInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll"

The machine is an Acer Power Series;

mobo 661FX-M7

CPU - Celeron 351

ATI R9250 gfx

400W PSU

2GB RAM

Win XP 32 SP2

I can only run SP2 and can't take it any further than that as SP3 seems to lose the rotate screen option and I need it to be run in portrait for how the guy runs it in his shop (tried SP3 with both the graphics card and the mobo graphics). I can't update it to a later OS as it won't work with his engraving machine.

I've tried;

repairing and reinstall the OS

running chkdsk and scannow don't bring up any errors

tried different HDDs for the install

The error only seems to occur with some programs, I can't install AVG or Avast but could install speccy. It doesn't seem to just be installers either, managed to install EaseUS backup software but when trying to run it I then get the same error.

XP is a bit before my time, I didn't really start tinkering until 7 so don't know if there's something glaringly obvious that I might be missing. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

It's a very common issue that happens when you try to install software designed for Service Pack 3 on a machine not running SP3.

To fix is easy, install Service Pack 3.

Problem with that is that I've found SP3 not to be compatible with rotated displays which how he has to have it setup in the shop.

If it's a compatibility issue, do you know of an AV and backup software that's free and compatible with SP2?

I dont know if this would help you. for starters XP is considered way to outdated now, even those of us running win7 only have till 2020 for support.

Maybe you could try seeing if there is a linux version of the program for the engraver, you may or may not have better luck with that.

a review about a backup solution that supposedly will deal with winXP.

Thank you, I'll check out the backup and AV options.

I'm fully understanding that XP is very outdated but the machine itself is old and only runs via serial with a parallel port proprietary dongle (the dongles cost thousands to replace) and the updated versions of the software start at about £1200. The software manufacturer no longer provides support for the old software but have been told that their staff have previously tried to get it to work with newer OS's without any luck. As far as I'm aware VM or compatability modes have been tried with no success as well so aren't really an option.

The other option if is anyone know's a way of getting round the ATi drivers limitation of rotating the screen when using SP3. If I can get that one sorted then I can happilty run it on SP3 and no further problem. Unfortunately both the GPU and onboard graphics don't seem to support this when running SP3, as much as I thought it was a pretty common feature.

My linux skills are next to zero so wouldn't even know where to begin on that side of things
