What would you choose?

that is great to know. i never knew that about the duke line. would you think the performance difference between the would be worth getting the 1080 over the 1070ti? or even other recommendations?

Given GPU boost, there will be a big gulf in performance even if you don't overclock. The GDDR5X offers its own nice little benefit, being an improvement over the GDDR5 of the 1070 ti. The difference, however, between a 1070ti and a 1080 is surpassed by that of the 1080 to the 1080 ti, boasting a huge leap in cuda cores, and 3GB more Vram.

What card would you choose if the price is the same? i am still holding out to pull the trigger for 2 more days, but between a MSI gtx 1080 duke or a EVGA GTX 1070 Ti GAMING hybrid cooler, which you would choose? i do like the hybrid cooler to keep temps down. but the little more performance out of the 1080 wouldn't be bad to have. something that will be fine for ~4yrs, that will do 1080p 144Hz on high settings, and maybe switch to 1440p later as well.

1080 duke is a great card. 1070ti can be overclocked to match stock 1080, but the duke's fans will keep it ahead.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I would do the 1080 Duke. I've put it into builds before. It's a monster. Literally...if you have the space for it, because it's huge.

It will outperform the 1070ti, even with temps cooler due to the hybrid card. It's still limited by the chips and design, ultimately, and the Duke stays cool with enough case airflow.

A 1080 hands down if they are the same price, especially if it is a MSI 1080 DUKE with its tri-fan cooler.

Sure a 1070 Ti can be OCed to match or even slightly outperform a stock 1080, but a 1080 with a great cooling shroud like the MSI DUKE will be able to maintain a higher sustained boost clock with GPU boost and thus outperform a OCed 1070 Ti easily. You can also OC the 1080 even further if you wish.

I am 1070 Ti owner myself, which I bought 3 months ago. Back then the 1070 Ti were very close to MSRP (~$470 USD) while the cheapest 1080 I could find was ~$560, so it made sense for me to get the 1070 Ti over the 1080. But now since a 1080 can be found for under $500, no reason to choose the 1070 Ti anymore.
