so, my current rig since last year is this:
CPU: Pentium G4560
GPU: GTx 1050 2GB
Ram: 8GB
i only have TWO options on upgrading: the CPU or the GPU, because one of them is all i can afford to save now.
On upgrading my CPU, ill just buy a 7th of 6th gen intel i5 because its much more cheaper than buying a new CPU with a new MOBO.
On the GPU side, i can buy 1060 3gb or 6gb, either of them is okay for me.
So guys help me decide on which should i replace, help is REALLY much appreciated.
For games that i would like to be playing at 60fps (any settings at 1080p)
MHW
Cod black ops 4: blackout mode
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
and any future AAA games..

NOTE: im not buying online because the shipping fee would be so expensive here in our country (Philippines) and not considering used hardware.

No RX 570 or 580?

I'd say the CPU first. With weak CPU, lowering graphics settings often dont help at all. With graphics card, at least you can push down the resolution in last resort.

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

oooo, hard choices. I'm guessing since the gpu can be a 1060 6gb, your price range for both is $300. I would probably get an i5 8600k because gpu prices are slowly dropping, plus nvidia's new gpus are releasing soon, which will drop prices more.

PC: CPU: i5-9600k - CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 - GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB GDDR6 - Motherboard: ASRock - Z370 Extreme4 - RAM: Team - T-Force Delta RGB 16 GB DDR4-3000 - PSU: Corsair - TXM Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply - Case: Thermaltake - Core G21 TG

OP said motherboard swaps are out of the question.

i5 7400 is pretty good for budget machines.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

He'll need a new mobo with that. 8th gen is probably out of the question.

Why don't you consider used hardware though? There's a great market for used parts here in the Philippines, especially for used Skylake and Kaby Lake parts. I've bought used multiple times from sites like TipidPc.com, OLX, even on facebook marketplace.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

Gpu, a cpu does not help frame rate as much as a gpu

I know this from experience

depends on the workload of course. The pentium would absolutely be holding back something like a 1070 in most titles, it wouldn't be able to keep up.

I just want it to be brandnew and importantly, its the warranty and quality that im really looking for. I cant risk my hard earned money on something i cant really trust. I hope you'll understand.

Just curious, what vendor is this through? I think you should get whatever i5 is cheapest, i7 if it's in budget, but I have no idea what that entails.

Also, used CPUs are extremely reliable. eBay offers purchase protection of various types, and it's also extremely hard to just break a CPU outside of too much overclock or just hitting it with a hammer.

Quality won't differ. You just need to test whatever you're planning on buying.

Anyways, if you're dead set on buying new while being budget limited,  get the cheapest i5 you can find.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

I just cant sorry. Im only still in college and all my money here is all saved up within a year. I know used hardward can have great value sometimes but i just cant risk it.

Can i ask about your rig? How does it perform on current titles? Can it be compared or better on regular PS4?

I game mostly on PS4, my PC's mostly for productivity (web dev, drawing, etc).

PS4 is definitely smoother, but that's a given with how console games are optimized (or should be optimized) to run as smoothly as possible. That said, it's not bad either on my PC, esports games like dota 2, overwatch, cs go run fine (those games run on potatoes, so that's a given). Triple A games though such as Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Origins, Rise of the Tomb Raider I played on PS4.

Assuming that u have a decent enough psu, u can upgrade to something like this....

CPU: Intel - Core i5-7400 3GHz Quad-Core Processor
Storage: ADATA - Ultimate SU650 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card: MSI - Radeon RX 580 8GB ARMOR OC Video Card
