Do you have any recommendations for a decent motherboard?

Anything midrange is good on the FX platform.

I definitely would not plan on sticking around on that platform though, it wasn't terribly good even when it was new.

Specs:
CPU: AMD FX-9590
GPU: GTX 970
Motherboard: Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 r5

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2

Hey,

Currently, my PC does not post. When I turn it on it will do one of three things:

1. The PC will power on, but no peripherals will turn on and no input will be sent to the screen and the computer will just sit like this forever. The PC power/reset button won't even work and I have to turn it off via the switch on the PSU
2. The same will happen as #1 but for a few seconds the gigabyte logo will appear and the mouse will turn on, but not the keyboard. Shortly after the screen will lose input and the mouse will shut off.
3. The same will happen as #1, but after a few seconds the PC will just turn off by itself.

I have tried: reseating the RAM individually, reseating the GPU, unplugging the hard drive and SSD to see if they were causing the issue, unplugging the peripherals, replugging in power connections and other random connections, cleaned out the rad, and reset the CMOS. I also tried jumping the PC with a screwdriver to test the power button, but that was successful. Lastly, I also replaced the power supply with the current one listed, but the result is the same. Maybe it's the motherboard? I'm not sure at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :) I don't have a motherboard speaker, but maybe it is necessary.

it's either the motherboard or CPU that's dead, it's really hard to tell which one, all of these issues could be either one of them, all you can do is test another CPU to make sure which one is the problem, though i do lean a little bit towards the motherboard being the problem

Welcome!

Are you able to try a different motherboard?

Usually a dead CPU/motherboard won't even turn on the fans for more than a second or two.

Thanks for the replies! I don't have another motherboard, so I'd have to buy one. Is that the best option?

If you have a friend with a compatible board, try that first.

I definitely think the motherboard is at fault here if everything else was tested and working.

there could be little issues that are stopping the PC from booting properly, i'm taking into account that the FX 9590 is a hot mess

I don't think any of my friend's motherboard are compatible, sadly :c I suppose I'll have to look for a decent replacement. I am planning on upgrading in a year or two anyways

Agreed.

I think the motherboard is at fault, but not completely dead.
