recently built and water cooled my system and was having some what I found to be odd temperature readings, when stress testing I'll watch my cpu temps spike a good 25c and then start to settle into the gentle curve ive grown to recognize from so many water cooling videos on the different channels and unlike my gpu which just immediately sets into the usual slow upward curve until it plateaus I was wondering if perhaps I had done something wrong to encounter these temperature irregularities. build as follows

i5 2500k @5ghz

RX580 @1500mhz

16gb hyperx fury ram

Thermaltake 700w psu

1tb Seagate barracuda

128gb pny ssd

bitspower blocks

d5 pump

ek res

ek 360 rad

72c is a bit high for a 2500k on water but not too crazy, i would try re pasting that and making sure the fans have a proper temperature/rpm curve set up, not a big deal though

what it sounds like is just a little lag, whatever youre using to watch your cpu temps is probably cpu bound, so when you're stress testing the cpu youre seeing that program work very slowly

same thing happens to me, i have speccy open watching temps, cpu-z on stress, watch the cpu jump from idle to 45-50c and later slowly update to the setups peak temps

Vcore 1.35

stress testing, aida64, kumbustor cpu burner, cinebench, cpuz utilty, anything I can get my hands on honestly just to have full confidence in the overclock

results are also consistent no matter the overclock, 4.3ghz 1.28vcore, 4.5ghz 1.31vcore, 4.7ghz 1.32vcore only difference is final load temp which goes from 63c-72c with higher clocks and vcore

have tried reseating and using different paste (used the paste with cooler then switched to IC Diamond) and found no differences. pump speed was adjusted as well as fan speed and found the expected increases and decreases based on those changes

The main difference is most likely from the die size. GPUs has larger dies and CPU and so are better at dissipating the heat. In contrast the CPU die smaller and so a lot of the limitations surround how good the transfer from the die to the IHS is.

Whereas the GPU is effectively a direct die cooled system the CPU has a more steps to go past.

Not too unsual imo.

okay well thanks to you and everyone else with the quick replies was worried I had done something wrong but guess that's just first time water cooling nerves
