You're friends build is better. PSU is a bit overkill though.

No one should get Kaby Lake new anymore. Should perform very well in 1440p 144hz.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

Oops I put together a list of some of the best parts for gaming. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HvdNsZ

Overkill? Kind of, ESPECIALLY for the power supply. But hey, it's several hundred dollars below your budget. Feel free to criticize and improve this list as you see fit.

Well that's including the monitor

If you already have the monitor, great. If not, you can get a 1ms response time, 144Hz, 1080P monitor for around $200. In fact, the PC list I sent is better for high refresh rate 1440P and 60FPS 4K...

This is my new build after your help most of it is personal changes (I don't like rgb) and the Noctua cooler because I need it to be quiet.
