Hi LTT Community,

I am currently wondering about upgrading my system and what you guys think I should upgrade as I would like more performance all around as in gaming my 980 Ti struggles at 3440x1440, however, I would also like better rendering performance, timeline scrubbing, multitasking. I don't want to build a whole new system at once so was wondering whether you think I should upgrade GPU first or platform?

What I do:

- Premiere Pro (up to 5.2K30 and 4K60)

- Gaming at 3440x1440

- Potentially more in the future

Thanks,

Max

1) Could you provide some specs aside from you 980 TI?

2) What is your budget?

Answer those, and I can start helping you.

Wait for the 9th gen to upgrade to the new 8 core since premiere makes use of quick sync, or get an X399 system if you want a lot of cores.

I mean you could get a used 1080ti on the cheap soon enough, but overall I don't think it'd be too much faster than a 980ti assuming yours is overclocked near 1500mhz. Doubt premiere cares about a faster GPU, better for gaming still to be sure.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I was thinking about the 9900K because of quick sync and yeah my 980 Ti is pretty near 1500 MHz will just have to see about turing even with the price :)

My bad, didn't notice them.

Yeah, if you're going to stick with this one for a while, you might as well get a 1080 TI. You won't see really notable performance gains from a 980 TI to a 1070 TI or a 1080.

As for the CPU, I would have suggested an 8700K, but since you expressed interest in the 9900K, go with that; you won't regret it.
