Recently my CPU (i7-5820k) fried, I was thinking of getting an i7-8700k(will be air cooled), but yet to find which motherboard. Currently, my build has a Gtx 980, 4X4 vengeance Corsair DDR4 RAM.

I was reading up somewhere and it was saying my GPU was not compatible with the CPU?

so what i am asking is:

Is my GPU compatible with the CPU?

What Motherboard should i get? (max150$)?

Is my RAM Ok for the build?

and for more info, the computer will be used for playing games mainly league, pubg, fortnite. It will also be used for streaming, and video editing.

Motherboard doesn’t really improve gaming performance, expensive ones just have more features likes RGB lightings.

All Graphic cards are usually compatibleoog with all motherboards and CPUs. I never had a problem with Graphics cards, as long as they fit inside your motherboard. Mordern Graphics cards use Pci-e x16 slots.

Your new Cpu is great, it requires a z370 chipset motherboard. $150 is not enough to buy a good motherboard. Search up “z370” on google and you will see many.

also, your ram is fine.

Or he could just get a non-K chip and save a buck both on CPU and mobo.

do you have any Mobo reccomendations on with that cpu and, is the cpu degrade a big deal? and is it faster than my previous i7-5820k

When you look at base clocks of 8700 and 8700k it migth seem like a pretty big deal but when you look at turbo clocks you realize than in single threaded workloads this chips will perform pretty much identically with just 0,1 GHz difference and the same cache set up. In multi threaded there will be a difference but it's significance won't be that big as long as you're not overclocking (which comes with it's own set of problems of course). And obviously this is 3 generations wide upgrade with the same core count, so it will perform significantly faster due to higher clocks, higher IPC and more cache.

https://pcpartpicker.com/products/motherboard/#c=129,131,130,134,128&sort=price&page=1 This is a list of all 300 series chipset equipped mobos, Just look for something from a reputable brand that suits your needs at your price point.
