if so 500-600w should be fine just make sure to get one with a good rating like an 80+ gold

Yeah probaly get 600w just to be safe but 500w should work just fine, and try to get 80+ gold

I’m looking at this on a pre built pc and it’s only telling me it’s not energy star qualified and 500w. Would you advice against it?

Do you mean i7-7700? 500W would be okay but I'd recommend to get 600w PSU.

What prebuilt PC it is? Or can you take a picture of the PSU?

Yes, it’s an i7-7700. The pc is an acer aspire GX-785-UR1A and there’s no pictures besides the case.

Looks like it have some Lite-On powersupply those are pretty common on prebuilt OEM PC's.

If 500 is okay, why recommend 600?  Why not just say, no not 500, get 600?

 

You're talking out of both sides of your mouth.  500 is fine.  Gold cert. doesn't mean quality, just means efficiency.  Check the PSU tier list here on the forums, they're ranked by quality IIRC.

500W is OK for that system but that PSU is likely a housefire away powering something like your hardware.
