Hello, I'm new to posting anything on the forums but I have been thinking about upgrading some parts of my pc for awhile now. I have had this pc for a few years now and have not changed anything in it since first getting it. I have been getting into tech a lot more recently, but I have no clue about cpu's and graphics cards and what I would need to upgrade. My specs are below, and I am just wanting some advice of anything that should be upgraded. I mostly am using it for gaming for games like Overwatch, Pubg, Warcraft, and im looking to just get overall better performance in game out of game. Also, am not wanting to be spend 2 grand on an i9 processor, more of a reasonable budget is what I can manage. Any help or advice is much appreciated!

Intel Core i5-4590 CPU 3.30 GHz

Corsair Vengeance DDR3 8GB

Corsair Force LE SSD 224GB

GTX 960

Corsair CS550M Power supply

Look for a used i7 4790k and a GTX 1060.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

Around $1000-$1300 on upgrades. It really depends on what is important for me to upgrade. I don't want to spend everything on a great graphics card if i should also upgrade my cpu too. Im not familiar with pricing for most things so i don't know if $1000 is enough or if i can get away with spending 800 or less

Do you need to be on the latest platform though? Broadwell i7's still kick ass. You can get one and spend the rest of the budget on a high end GPU and high refresh rate monitor. I guarantee this will give you a better gaming experience than building a new rig altogether.

I was thinking of going for a i7 since it will be a step up from an i5 for sure. So an i7 4790k sounds good! But Is a GTX 1060 that much of an improvement to make it worth the $300 price point? 300 is a great price but is it worth spending alittle more for a greater boost on the graphics end of things?

a 1060 performs the same or better than the 980. I'd say yes.

What's your monitor though? Utilizing technologies like G-Sync or Freesync improves the overall gaming performance, not on numbers, but on what you see on the screen. Let me know and I'll try to formulate something for you.

That link is to the monitor i'm using right now. Sorry for the late reply, haven't been on the forums in awhile. I have been thinking about upgrading to a higher refresh rate monitor and any advice would be great.
