!My budget is $400-$450!

I am planning to upgrade to https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gKPcRJ

From:
AMD FX 6300

Some Motherboard
8GB DDR3 800MHz

My GPU is a Asus Strix 970

I am planning on getting a HTC Vive, but I think I should upgrade first.
I have done a few benchmarks and think my current PC could handle it, as with the test I have done I have never gone below 100FPS.
However...
Would the Ryzen 5 2600 be a sold upgrade for VR? Should I go with Intel on this?

I really like my AMD chip, and would like to not move away from AMD. I don't think there are any Intel chips that are cheap enough anyway.
I like the Ryzen upgrade, as it is good for the future.

I run an Oculus Rift with a 2400G, 16GB 3200MHz RAM and a GTX 1060 6GB. VR games are pretty forgiving on the CPU requirement (with the recommended chip being a Haswell Core i5), and even the 2400G can deliver a good experience with a dedicated GPU. With that being said, the 2600 should do an even better job of it theoretically due to the stronger core architecture and extra cores.

Well, VR is mostly dependent on the gpu, but you need a powerful enough cpu so not to bottleneck your gpu. A 2600 would be great for VR, maybe a little overclocking would be needed, plus its only $165 rn. Might I suggest the 2600, a msi b450-a pro (or tomahawk), at least 2x4 ddr4 ram 2600MHz? Maybe if there's money left upgrade to a radeon rx 580?

Well, VR is mostly dependent on the gpu,

the CPU is what's most important for max fps potential with say the lowest graphical settings for smoothest gameplay

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I have a kit in the parts list that is 2 8GB sticks at 3000MHz. I would like the speed as I know the Ryzen CPU's bennifet from it.

yea, that's fine; it was just a suggestion so you could get a better gpu
