Hello,

I'm building this computer and just wanted to get some clarity about the power supply.

First of all, let me list the main components that i'm going to be using;

GFX: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/evga-geforce-rtx-2080-ti-xc-ultra-gaming-11gb-gddr6-vr-ready-graphics-card-4352-core

CPU: 8700k

Mobo: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-rog-maximus-x-hero-intel-z370-socket-1151-ddr4-atx-motherboard-mb-6ag-as.html

SSD: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07CGGP7SV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

RAM: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/32gb-(2x16gb)-corsair-ddr4-vengeance-lpx-black-pc4-24000-(3000)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-15-17-17-35-x

Alrightey, i'm a bit worried about what PSU I should get, it says at the bottom of the specs sheet on the graphics card that the minimum recommend PSU is 650w. Although, how much (roughly) will the other components use up?

Should I get a 850 or just go big and get a 1000w.

Cheers :)

The 650W recommendation is for a full system with that graphics card - the card itself only uses about 250W, and that'll be the most power-hungry component.

Those official recommendations also tend to exaggerate a bit, plus they have to leave room for someone with a very power-hungry CPU etc.

For you, 550W would be enough and 650W is more than plenty. Just make sure you get a quality power supply, it's the worst place to skimp.

Well, a 1000w psu is overkill. I would stick with a 750-850w psu. Also, this is gpus, not psus.

Most likely a 550w will be fine. A 650w would definitely be enough. Just make sure you get a solid PSU, such as a Focus+, EVGA G1+/G2/G3, or RMx/RMi

Just making sure, you're not pre ordering the 2080 ti are you? You shouldn't even pre order, just in case there's something seriously wrong with it or the 2080 ti is barely faster than the 2080.

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
