Hi guys,

 

This is my first serious build so apologies for any dumb questions.

 

I'm looking to build a setup with an i7 8086k (which I won in the intel giveaway) and a 1080ti, which I'm hoping will allow me to play AAA titles ~144fps at 1440p for a few years.

 

I've chosen the H500P mesh to build in, and was looking at top mounting a x62 kraken for CPU cooling.

The case has a plate (see below) near the top which has additional space above with mesh sides for exhaust (see below).

Max clearance for top mounting water coolers is listed at 55mm and the Krakens radiator is 30mm tall with 26mm tall fans, so I imagine this won't fit.

Can I mount the radiator to the underside of the top plate and the fans to the top of the plate in a pull configuration to get around this? Would I lose any performance in doing so?

 

As an aside, I've also just found out about the g12 kraken which allows mounting of an AIO to the graphics card. Is it worth doing in this case (which I imagine has pretty high ariflow because of the 200mm front fans)? If so, what size radiator would you choose and where would you mount it?

Usually front mounted intake is the best for a radiator.

 

I've heard reports of the fans choking in the H500P, I wouldn't recommend that.

@Crunchy Dragon Thanks for the heads up on the case.

 

When you say front mounted radiator, do you mean for the CPU or the GPU? If the GPU is air cooled I've heard that either a front intake/top exhaust mounted radiator for the CPU is a trade off between cold intake air for CPU radiator + warm for the GPU /cold air intake air for the GPU and warm air coming off the GPU into the CPU radiator.  You'd recommend a front intake?

cards will not throttle until 90C and tolerate the heat better

I would do intake on the CPU, exhaust on the GPU.
