I've set up a openvpn server on my router. The reason being i have a network storage server i want to access from everywhere. That way the 256gb ssd in my laptop is all fine, and when logging on i'll have a network attached 3tb drive. But, i tried on my mobile hotspot to do a file copy, which worked. I tried it on my schools network and i got an error, wouldn't allow me to copy. So i thought hmm, could their network be setup to allow vpn connections, but disallow file copy over a vpn connection?

I'll be back on school monday, then i can grab a copy of the error. Because, obviously i thought i'd remember it all. It was kinda lengthy, like 4 complete lines.

I could solve this by force the traffic, i assume. I have not tested that yet as i'm unsure if changing that setting would mean i'd have to re-export certs. But that's not important right now.

Nope....Just nope.

Try a different network, often schools block lots of stuff.

The error would be nice.

It works connected to my mobile hotspot. And home network which is probably a bad test as the storage automatically connects when connected to home network as well as when on vpn.

And i just tested it with a different network where it worked too. Also haven't been able to google the error. So maybe i should just wait till i got more on monday.

Nope....Just nope.

Yeah, i thought so too. But they allow vpn, so i was thinking how they are able to allow vpn, but disallow file transfer from that vpn, it's an encrypted connection.

Nope....Just nope.

you sure the vpn works fully correctly? Also modern firewalls are getting pretty smart.

If it didn't work i wouldn't be able to connect to it, i also wouldn't be able to do the file transfer from 2 different networks successfully if it wasn't working. So maybe it's their smart firewall, i don't know. But suppose i'd have to force all traffic.

Nope....Just nope.
