Which Amazon?

Are peripherals like keyboard, mouse, and monitor included in that budget?

Is o/s needed? If so, any preference?

Roughly how much storage is needed for non-o/s files?

He can get the Raven case that Linus reviewed and place it under his monitor, or a Node 304, Cooler Master Elite 110/120/130, EVGA Hadron Air and place it beside on the table.

This is just a fast pick & mix of things that i think of when i want a small workstation,

you can add GPU for what you need (Firepro/quadro)

Thanks, but sadly this goes over his budget.

thanks i will look into this :)

not recuired but it has to be small

just some simple picture editing nothing big (add text, crop pictures etc..)

In that case, just grab an Intel NUC and stuff in some ram and a ssd: http://www.amazon.de/Intel-BOXDC3217BY-Barebone-Mini-PC-Intel-HD/dp/B0093LINT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388720445&sr=8-1&keywords=intel+nuc
