I'm in the process of building a workstation and I'm curious what the P9X79-E WS has over the non E version, other than the obvious 7 PCIe x16. I am also trying to figure out which one I should purchase, because if the extra $120~ isn't worth it then I'd rather spend that money on something else. I'm going to be doing UHD video editing mainly, if that helps at all.

Any help is appreciated!

Just looking at the two side by side, as you said the E has 7 PCI slots. I can see the E has 2 more 6Gb/s sata ports, and a better IO selection. In my opinion isn't worth the extra $120

What would you have in mind you would spend an extra $120 dollars on? I'd say go for the cheapest due to the fact if you're able to get something for $120 dollars or to save it to get something else might be worth while. What is your component list/specification for your workstation @JamesMontour?

It depends whether you need the extra PCIe slots or the updated features on the new board

That's what I was thinking, SATA ports aren't really important to me, as I'm only going to have three hard drives total.

What would you have in mind you would spend an extra $120 dollars on? I'd say go for the cheapest due to the fact if you're able to get something for $120 dollars or to save it to get something else might be worth while. What is your component list/specification for your workstation @JamesMontour?

I was thinking I'd use some of it to add a USB 3.0 PCI card, and maybe the rest to get a better gpu.

It depends whether you need the extra PCIe slots or the updated features on the new board

A parts list, budget, and the time you would need it completed by would help us tremendously in helping you pick out your parts.

The difference is one PCI-E X16 slot, a couple of SATA III ports, etc. for $120. In my opinion, it isn't worth it.

Extra PCIe x16 slots aren't really all that helpful, as at most I'd have two graphics cards, one 780 (or 780 Ti) and a Quadro K4000. I have the rest of the parts picked out, just needed help deciding on the mobo.

Thank you everyone for your help and comments! I've decided to get the P9X79 WS!
