The 1080p question

Hi I'd like to build a 1080p144 system (1080p60 in some real tough games) with a 1070ti and a ryzen 2600 , however I'm concerned about developers not supporting 1080p anymore , is this possible ? (In a year or two I wanted to move to 1440p)

I could still play most games I own on 640x480.

you should take a look at steams hardware survey, according to them over 60% of steam users game at 1080p with 1440p at just 3.6% and 4k at 1.3%. i don't see it going away anytime soon. you should take a look at the whole thing its always interesting to look at what people are actually gaming on.   https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam-Hardware-Software-Survey-Welcome-to-Steam

Also, 1080p is currently the ideal and most common resolution for gaming laptops. From the looks of things, there won't be any major market shifts in the desktop or laptop space towards 1440p or 4k for a few years at least.

1080p is pretty much standard for most displays right now and It is going to be used for a long time.
