if it's just general use I can't think you'd see much of a difference in performance to justify the cost...

Depends on what you're doing. If you're just gaming then your current CPU should be sufficient. If you're planning on expanding your system into handling more demanding task like rendering, streaming, etc. Then yes i would recommend you upgrade to a 8400.

well yeah i want to start rendering . Also some games are coming i feel like 4 cores are not enough anymore !! i was playing asc origin and my cpu wouldnt let me get more than 40 fps in ultra with 1070 oc like absolute bottleneck . or bf1 while i play on 1080 like 45 % gpu use pissing me off

yeah but don't forget you need a new motherboard for the i5-8400, 8th gen CPU's require 300 series motherboards to function.

 

they don't work AT ALL on 100 series or 200 series motherboards.

If you're looking at doing streaming and such I'd probably look more towards a 2600x than something from Intel.

When your GPU is hitting 45%, is the CPU hitting 100%?

yep 100 % i only bought this cpu because linus said it wont bottleneck 1070 and now here we are acs syndicate , origin , bf1 fucking bottleneck next time test it linus then talk >:(
