I am looking to build my first pc. I want to using it for gaming, some game development, 3d modeling, and possibly video editing. I have done some research for this and I have been looking at the following parts. I would like some advice as whether these are the best options.

CPU:

Ryzen 2700x

I think this would be better for my applications than the 8700k because of the extra 2 cores that would help with everything not in the gaming category. It also seems that the stock cooler that comes with the 2700x is enough to cool the cpu well. This may be less important, but AMD says they will support the AM4 socket with x470 until 2020 at least, whereas there is no guarantee with intel.

GPU:

¯\_()_/¯

I was originally planning on getting the 1070-ti, however I am not sure what to do with RTX. I like the look of ray-tracing, but few of the games I play will probably support it for a few years at least. I have been considering getting a better 10 series card or getting a cheaper one to sell and buy an RTX card in the future, or should I just buy and RTX 2070. I have no idea.

Motherboard:

Not to sure here, but the AORUS x470 ultra gaming fits my all requirements, except for wifi. Should I get the Aorus x470 wifi 5, or a $15 wifi card, or a completely different motherboard?

Memory:

16 gigabytes of 2133 DDR4 8x2. Don’t think speed really matters for the things I am doing.

Storage:

Samsung 970 evo 250 gigabytes. I know that the intel 660p series is cheeper, but it is quite a bit slower it seems.

Also an inexpensive HDD for around $50. Any suggestions?

Case:

Not so sure about what case to get. I like the look of the NZXT H500i, but I am not sure whether it is the best option.

Power Supply:

Absolutely no idea about this. PCPartPicker says that this build will need a 400 watts, but I don’t know how reliable this is and I also don’t know how to look for a PSU.

OS:

I think windows 64 bit home should work

Monitor:

I currently have a Dell Ultrasharp U2515H Monitor. 2560x1440 @ 60hz oc up to 80hz with a 6ms delay. I have used it for the past year or so and like it very much. I think that for my uses the extra resolution is better than the higher frame rate you would get at 1080p.

Mouse and Keyboard:

For this build I would like to get a nice mouse and keyboard, however I don’t want to spend too much on them. Any suggestions?

Some of the games I am playing include:

Paradox Initiative games

Civ VI

KSP

Software I am planning on using:

Unity3D

Autodesk Apps

Adobe Creative Cloud

Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Hi there, well currently it seems you would need a decent psu, especially considering how you have an rtx 2070 as an option! There are currently some sales going on with 1070's and 1080's. If you're saying a 1070ti will hold you for a few years of gameplay, I would not get an RTX 2070. Maybe consider a 1080 or 1080ti for 100-200 more than the 1070? The psu you should consider, personally, I would say getting at least a 550-650 psu Gold, if it's in your budget then heck get a platinum.

PC cases are always a little difficult to decide on because it's a tug and war between design and function. I love Fractal Design's meshify series. It's a mid ATX tower with great airflow.

As for the mobo, no clue. I would not say I'm advanced enough to give someone a 100% correct answer.

Might I ask what your budget is? You're considering things like the RTX2070 (expensive as heck) but want a hard drive for under 50? I would grab a 2tb hard drive as they're normally not much more than a 1tb.

The reason I added the 1080 there is because of RTX announcement 1080 prices are constantly dropping. I would look out for deals every day and pick up a 1080 for around the same price as 1070.

Right now, 1070 is around $390

1080 that I linked is $454

Also, even though you might not need the higher RAM frequency, it's actually better to have around 3000Mhz with Ryzen processors because of how they are made.

Well first off I'm am partial to AMD but your thought process seems sound, by the sound of it your budget is open I would only add that first gen Ryzen is a freaking absolute deal right now so I would not count that out, for example the 1800x is currently $200 US at Microcenter so if you went that route you could put more of your budget into your GPU which in my opinion is more bang than the 2700x and a lesser card and you could pimp that out with a killer NVME ssd for raw speed again the motherboards are also coming down for first gen so it's something to consider

Thank you for answering quickly. I am going to order the parts Krosis listed, though I have a few questions. The newegg deal has ended before I ordered it, but my local microcenter is selling "AMD Ryzen 7 2700X with Wraith Prism Cooler, ASUS TUF X470-Plus Gaming CPU/Motherboard Bundle" for $389 and "AMD Ryzen 7 2700X with Wraith Prism Cooler, ASUS ROG Strix X470-F Gaming CPU/Motherboard Bundle" for $419. Should I buy either of these or should I order them separately online? Also the Fractal Design case does not comes with two fans. Should I order two more to fill the empty fan slots?
