So heres the problem that I am experiencing:

I had purchased the XFX 7870 DD overclocked edition http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150606

And I was having issues with it such as I would wake the computer from the monitor being in a black screen saver and I would get a signal but it would just stay a black screen and if I unplugged my DVI cable and plugged it back in it would come back alive but say that the display driver crashed. And also at random times it would crash and have the sound loop and then reboot. I tried reformatting my computer thinking that it could be a simple driver issue it didn't help same issues.

So I decided to RMA the card and so I did and I exchanged it for an Asus 7870 Direct CUII http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121649 and I installed it all was fine for about 5-10 minutes or so of basic web browsing and so I went to run Ungine Valley Benchmark and the card and as soon as it loaded to start the benchmark I get the sound loop and the screen just went blank.

I then turned the computer off and then back on figuring I was dealing with the same issue and It would come right back on and be fine for a little while but this time I don't get any beeps or any signal to my monitor or anything it just stays black. Tried using an HDMI cable and DVI still both the same results. So now the computer is basically dead when this card is installed. I also even tried installing it on a different system and nothing at all happens the same black screen and no signal to the monitor.

Is there any solutions of what I can try? I don't think this is a driver issue anymore because the problem is before the OS and it doesn't work on a different computer.

I put in from the other computer a 6870 and I have no problems at all. It boots right up. I also updated my bios and no difference.

My specs are:

Asus M5A97 Motherboard

AMD Phenom II 1090t

Corsair TX850M Power Supply

2-4GB of Corsair DDR3 XMS3 Ram

120GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD

500 GB Western Digital Caviar Black

LiteOn DVD/CD Burner

Does anyone know if there is any way to reset the GPU bios or anything on the card itself without having to be on the computer itself seeing since I don't have an option to boot with that card installed? I am stuck on what else to try here if there is even anything more to try.

Make sure it is plugged into a PCI x16 slot. (A long shot I know)

As for trying to re-set the BIOS you could update it all together, or you can reset the CMOS. My motherboard had two pins which you short with a screw driver (when the PC is OFF) and that re sets it, but you can take out the CMOS battery and put it back in (when the PC is OFF) and that will do the same thing. I had to do this when I had an overclocking problem and my BIOS was freezing. Look up instructions on this because I don't trust that my memory is fully correct and I don't want to be responsible for breaking your PC, (but it's easy so don't worry). I'm not sure this will fix the problem but it's worth a shot, though it will un do any overlocking settings you have.

Other than that I don't know, sorry..

Good luck.

It is into a PCI 16x slot. And I was looking more into if it were possible to reset any settings on the graphics card bios if possible? I know how to reset my motherboard bios but when I updated my bios it reset my settings anyways and since it didn't work in another computer thats why I figure has to be something at the bios level of the graphics card.

Yeah good point I didn't take that into consideration...

Umm

Is there a bios switch on the PCB of the GPU itself? I remember some of the 6000 series cards had this.

Also, there is a very very small chance....that you just got two faulty cards. I mean it happens, its just rare because the chances are so low...

Maybe try and get this one RMA'd like you did the last one?

Yeah I didn't see anything obvious on the board itself. I really don't want to have to wait another week or so to get another card but its looking like I won't have a choice.

I really don't know what could of happened why it doesn't want to let the computer boot at all. From what I've seen It seems to be more than a driver issue or a motherboard bios setting because I have never had any other problems with my old card and the issue happens when tested in another computer as well.

I did try and put it into a different pci x16 slot and no difference.

It does sag but even if I support it still makes no difference. What's weird is that if I don't plug the power cables into it the computer still beeps as if there is a problem with the graphics card. But when it is actually plugged in I get nothing. Not even an O.K. beep.
