Can it be used as a header for something else or is it strictly for that?

As far as I know it can only be used for digital audio.

Do you need another header for something?

S/PDIF = Sony/Phillips Digital Interface.  The "0" is just the port number/address (In laymans terms). Id-Est SPDIF_0, SPDIF_1 et-al

This Wikipedia page about S/PDIF may prove useful..... or not, as the case may be.

Instructions ? WHAT?!?!?! A man don't need instructions!       Oh............wait a minute...........................What's this bit for?  aaaaaagh!!

  • 2 years later...

This old man explains it very simple in the video in the link, plus there's multimedia add-ons like 5.25" Desktop Media Dashboard Front Panel that will fit in the drive bays, if your so inclined to use it. I am just posting on this old discussion just because someone might find it useful in the future if they plan on building computer repair rig and want to get more use of their motherboard, when anyone buys a header converter/adapters for a device make, sure everything is compatible.

Research prevents unwanted damage, you don't want.
