GTA V Performance

choggy2840

Hi Guys,

I have recently bought a new laptop an Asus FX503VM-EN184T which has an i5-7300HQ and a 1060 3GB. So I went to play GTA V to find that I get MAJOR fps dips like down to 15 to 20 fps so I started up afterburner to find that the CPU is always at 100% usage with some dips to 98% so I instantly thought CPU bottleneck so I tried everything like using DSR to play at 1440p with 8x MSAA to make the GPU work harder but yet the CPU stays at 100% usage temps are fine with around 75 to 78 degrees Celcius on the CPU and about 66 to 71 degrees Celcius on the 1060 at 1080p with a mixture of high and very high with FXAA and 2x MSAA No Advanced settings where turned on.

Any help appreciated!

TIA

to make the GPU work harder

that's.....not how that works

making the gpu work harder... is just making the gpu work harder.

if the game is loading the cpu 100% even on the lowest possible settings then the cpu is simply too slow for whatever build of gta 5 you're using. If you're trying to benchmark it while playing online , then throw everything out the window as there's no rules when it comes to online performance.

Your i5 will generally be the bottleneck for trying to game over 100fps

drop all of the settings to the lowest and see what your fps is, you're probably mostly limited on VRAM, would have highly suggest a 6GB 1060 at minimum, or an i7 with a 1050ti

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

At this point I am just aiming for 60FPS but the drops are massive sometimes and very frustrating.

What happens with everything at the lowest settings? Are you running the fans at 100%? Is it set to maximum performance?

At the lowest settings the CPU usage has dropped to about 77 to 80% but can spike up to 100% it seems most of the fps drops are gone. So possibly a setting that is loading up my CPU?

Probably just try turning up a few settings at a time and see what changes. If you bought the laptop recently though I'd probably return it and go with one of the other options I suggested.

Did you 100% need a laptop for gaming?
