Transferring OS

I have an old computer that had windows 7 ultimate and I hear that if you go to microsoft's website, you can download windows 10 and it will just upgrade for free. I did this and later was wondering if I could transfer this product many times or is it just limited to one time since the product key is from windows 7 ultimate.

Depends, if you are signed in with a microsoft account then yes but only on 1 device at a time, if not than chances are slim but still possible if you contact MS support.

If it was a OEM key I don't know how those are handled.

I got a cheap OEM key off ebay. <$10 and I have been able to use it multiple times as long as I don't use a Microsoft account.

Since base is Win7, if it was connected to prebuild (Dell, HP, Lenovo etc.), then it will be locked. But otherwise it will be problem free. Just basics apply. Only one activation at the time, and you can't "upgrade again". The key will work either on Win7 or Win10, and you can just install Win10 and activate that.
