so i'm contemplating building a desktop system again now that I have an actual office again in my new home.  I have my old rig, only thing worth keeping though is the case (a nice lian-li case + 500watt antec PSU)  now I originally was planning a ryzen 2200g build with no seperate GPU for now, but started running numbers and it was still pricy.  then IT dude at work said while I was chatting about my interest to get back into pc gaming, said I could have a Optiplex 790 Desktop for 50 bucks, 8gb ram and i7-2600. told me to take that add in a 1050 Low profile and possibly some more ram and a ssd and call it a day.  gotta admit this is tempting.  50 for computer + 150 for 1050 ti + 50 for a budget SSD and prolly could score a 16gb ddr3 kit for 80 bucks on ebay.  downside is I wouldn't have the option in the future to upgrade GPU to a non lowprofile setup so its limiting.

another thought and I kinda regret not pulling the trigger on it when I had the chance (one with 48gb ram ssd+3tb HD went for 202 on ebay and I bowed out of the bidding there) but noticed a lot of workstations such a lenovo s30 with 4core or 8 core cpus going for 200ish or a bit lower,  ddr3 ECC memory is stupid cheap. and these have beefy PSUs so could take a 1080 or simlar card i I wanted.

any thoughts? kinda want to keep sub 400 for the tower.  plan on getting a 40-45in 4k tv/monitor to go with the setup.

you can look for non-SFF prebuilts for compatibility, or search for a xeon(LGA1366 and newer) workstation instead.
