CPU not detected/fail

Hi,

 

just started building a new computer. I'm having a issue with the CPU.

 

CPU: i5-8400

Motherboard: MSI B250I

The computer will turn on, but after 1 sec it will shut off and tell following error on motherboard:
"CPU - Indicates CPU is not detected or fail."

The whole build is new, but the GPU, and that's unplugged.

 

I have tried following things:
1: reinstalling CPU and cooler

2: reputting thermal paste on

3: making sure no pins are bent (CPU was installed correctly)

i was pretty confused for a second when i saw you're using a B250 motherboard, i was like "why is he using an AMD motherboard for Intel CPU?".....then i remembered B250 is Intel... f*** you AMD for doing this

anyway............ you're using the wrong motherboard for the CPU, it should be a B360 motherboard, B250 only supports 6th and 7th Gen CPU's, you're using an 8th Gen.

Thanks for the help, is it possible to upgrade with a bios or something?

No. You'll need to buy a whole new motherboard. You should be able to return the old one.
