Computer hibernating with false overheating reading?

Docretier

I work at a computer repair shop and this laptop has me stumped, windows is reporting in event viewer that the processor is overheating and then goes into hibernation mode. It is random and doesn't actually correspond with usage. I stress tested it and it got to at most 84°c, and it did not hibernate. Then later I start it up and begin to open a program, and it goes into hibernation with event viewer stating the processor got too hot. I don't think the sensor is broken, faulty is a possibility I guess. Is there a way to shut off hibernation when the computer thinks it's too hot? The CPU should have the proper safeguards against overheating on its own.
