Hey guys,

I am going to be a new Comcast customer in a few weeks (no choice...only provider in the area). I have had some experience in the past with their crappy modem/router combos and want to also avoid paying their  monthly leasing fee. Can anyone recommend a good modem and router? Is it better to get them separate or to get a combo unit myself? I'm willing to get separate if it's cheaper or better in general.

Location: 2 bedroom apartment (1000 SQ feet) in a complex so likely a lot of other wifi signals running interference. I'll make sure to switch my router to a less congested channel but want something with good strength to not have any dead spots.

What I do: game online, wife streams simultaneously (Netflix, youtube, etc), and have probably 5-6 connected devices at one time.

Help?

Get a 16 channel modem or better. The CM600 and the SB6183 are good choices. Or say fuck it and get a Docsis 3.1 modem that will be able to do all the current speed tiers. Router wise look at something AC wise. TPLink is good if your on a budget, but ASUS and Netgear make great routers. I have a Synology RT2600 AC and its been going strong. It kinda depends on how much you want to spend.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
