I upgraded my g4600 to a i5 8600k, and now my computer wont boot. It turns on for a second then turns itself off once with no loop. Put old cpu back in and it won't turn on still but this time it has a boot loop.

I got a AIO cooler also so I took the motherboard out only to realize the cooler wont even fit. So I put my old stock Intel cooler back on my new cpu and now I'm running into the problems. I re checked all the cables and they seem to be fine. I built this PC but it was my first so I am no expert. I updated the bios before all this btw

yeah unfortunately b250 has the same socket physically but not electrically as coffee lake. Not sure why the old CPU won't work, but have you tried clearing the cmos? you can find out how online, it's easy since you know your motherboard model. also, what AIO? I bet you can make it work with a different fixture.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

The reason is intel wont let the board manufacturers use the 8th gen microcode on the older boards.

They are electrically compatible. It's possible to modify the bios code of Sky/Kaby boards and make Coffee run on them, as has been shown.

only on low power draw CPUs. The number of ground and high/low pins is different for LGA 1150 and LGA 1150 2

If you can run an 8700K, you can run any of the CPUs. They have to make up excuses, but it doesn't seem like any of them are valid.

No, you don't understand, there's literally a different power delivery system. There's not just a BIOS lockdown, the electricity is fully wired differently. I can't find the exact spec, but i know there's something like 20 more ground pins on 1151 v2. An 8700k on a b250 would require power from fewer pins, and also require sacrificing certain parts of the CPU like some cache or even some cores because they aren't physically connected to power.

You can literally find modders running fully functional coffee on Z170/Z270.

yes its possible but not at all ideal, easy, or efficient/effective. There's enough to run an i3 reliably, but an i7 on those boards is no good for the power delivery.

I got the old cpu to work. I just kept swapping cpu's and reconnecting the wires i already reconnected. No problems so far.

And wow I feel stupid I should've done some research before I impulse bought the 8600k st bestbuy. Was the same socket so I thought it'd work. And I got the h100i v2. Not enough space with my case

hopefully that stuff is new enough to get your money back. I recommend a used i7 7700 wherever you can find one online, and a nice beefy air cooler for max turbo swag.
