I hate upgrading cpus because it often requires a new motherboard, and even memory!

The anti- spectre/meltdown patches really put the nail in the coffin and my cpu went from being sufficient with a margin of safety to running 85-95% on some games at 75fps.

Then there's ashes of singularity which I won't even play until I get a better cpu. Not playing a post release game because of undesired performance level is also new.

I have an

Intel Core i5-2310 @ 2.90GHz
5,524.

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

running at 3.5Ghz

with 4x2x2 (16) ddr3 ram.

How much do you think I can get selling my ddr3 ram as % of FMV ?

I'm pretty sure all the good value cpus all need ddr4.

I'm looking at the AMD Ryzen 5 2600 based on passmark score/$

What would you do? this cpu is completely livable but I don't want to wait too long and not be able to sell my ddr3 and buy ddr4 at a good enough price

Wha mobo altho for gaming id get a 8400 and a z series mobo for upgrading to 9th gen.

ryzen is fine too.

you mena an i5 8400 ?

I just want some m2. slots for the future and 3 sata 6GB/s would be good

A 8 x pci slot for an expansion card below a 2 slot gpu would be nice.

the very best CPU for ddr3 is arguably the i7 4790k. It totally kicks ass so if you want to keep your ram you're certainly welcome to get a new motherboard and slot this bad boy in for mad performance. Although, what is the latency on your ram? If it's not a good kit you should get different ram.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

508$ https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117369

has lower passmark score than ryzen 5 2600

is also likely more vulnerable to meltdown and spectres. With that differentce in price I might aswell get the mobo and ddr4 lol

why would anyone buy a CPU that's that old new? WTF?

also you check latency in bios or on the dimm itself. it's the CL timing, it'll say 10-10-10-27 or whatever

I guess. Wait, is it normal for them to be all over the place?

those are very good timings so if you were to get a 4790k it would jive pretty well
