Actually thought of the other keyboard:)) but i was thinking if i dont fix the heat it might breakdown a lot faster :) given the air the cooler i tested provide, yup next to useless i guess... good thigh protector though :))

Any brand of thermal paste you prefer? Can you also have a fan upgrade? They say there is no way for me to control the fan speed though :(

also undervolting does not work in your opinion?

one thing is the heat you fell another is the actual temps, use Hwinfo and check them, it may get uncomfortable in the keyboard and be fine for the hardware.

I just use artic mx-4, check this:

fan upgrade i have no idea, but even if possible you'll end up with a jet engine noise. I would not undervolt or change fans if temps are fine for the hardware

Good day,

I was looking for a way to lower the heat coming off the keyboard and the solutions I googled is re-applying thermal paste and undervolting. Aside from buying a laptop fan.

For the thermal paste, I fear I might ground it or mess it up so i am still googling stuff.

I tried undervolting though using intel xtu -.11 volts and it is still thermal throttling on idle and a lot when i use prime95. From the ones I read, they cap at -.15v when i did that the system froze and the laptop reset. From what I understand, when you undervolt it should lower temperature and stop the system from thermal throttling. It appears to do the opposite. The cpu i have is i7-6700hq.

is this really a good idea? Are there other options? TIA

You can always use another keyboard.

Ok. Thanks! I would revert everything back and google how to clean and change thermal paste. Will check temps for the hardware as well.

thanks again!

  • 3 weeks later...

me again :D should have listened to you and opened it up myself... went to asus service center and they tried to add the new thermal paste without removing the old one... i got into an argument walked out to call their service center and came back in because it was closed... His boss was right beside him and did not say anything... that was the only time he agreed to remove the paste before adding the new one... then he applied the paste so low that only half was covered so i asked him to do it again... then i need to pay him around 20$ for doing the work and they argued in front of me if they should place a sticker or not afterwards. They didn't :(

Anyways thanks again! hopefully someone reads this and was of help or someone can do something... I will be posting another question about ssd on the ssd forum about my wife's laptop hopefully you can help me as well :D later and ty again!
