Hello all, new user here, so apologies if I managed to screw up the category.

So I think most of the people here are familiar with LGA 1156 and how good value those xeons are. Sure enough, I picked up an asus p7h55-v for $35 and ordered one of those $20 xeons. Tested it out and everything seemed all good... until it came to actually getting to use it.

First try with some generic Crucial DDR3, non ECC, failure to boot. Wouldn't even post through onboard without a cmos battery (though I managed to dig one out from somewhere). Great, Had to go out and blow $30 on a kit of Corsair vengeance ram. And now it finally works, but that was just a sample of the hell to come.

Prior experience with asus motherboards all the way back to LGA 775 was good, but this newer and supposedly better LGA1156 board would ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO INSTALL WINDOWS. Tried to use my usb Windows installation kit... Getting blue screens everywhere. Tried to Preinstall windows 10 from another pc (which was older lol) and slot it in... Gave me a blinking cursor. Ok now i was getting a bit annoyed, since my ancient mobo worked far better. Well maybe it was because the bios was outdated and causing issues but NOPE it was already on the latest revision. Fine, maybe this motherboard just couldnt work with windows 10.

So i proceeded to grab a windows 7 iso file and load it on another flash drive but guess what? Blinking cursor again. Now I was getting quite pissed, surely this motherboard could support windows 7 right? Funny thing is, it did boot up with some random HDD with an older install of Windows 7 (which was probably a 32 bit) on it. Guess its just my luck I have a pos motherboard which seems to be hell bent on not working with me.

About to try to preinstall windows 7 on the drive Im supposed to be using with this system, so wish me luck.

For anyone who is curious, its using a 2x2 kit of kingston Genesis DDR3, a 600w psu and a seagate 500 GB hdd.

Do you have a way to create the USB boot drive new?

Have you used this USB Drive before to install windows?

Not all USB drives are usable to install windows ( my sandisk Cruzer refuses to do so)
