Afternoon all,

Recently, I have upgraded to a 6700k and GTX 1080. When I first installed these I appeared to have no issue. I then went messing with affinity settings in task manager and now I get the following behavior, only on GTA V.

  1. GTA V runs on launch utilising only processors 0 & 7 maxing them to 100%
  2. Setting affinity to exclude processors 0 & 7 results in 1 thru 6 carrying the load @ approximately 60% per processor.
  3. Resetting to all processors, reverts to only 0 & 7 @ 100%
  4. If the game is not in focus, with no changes to affinity, it appears to use all 8 processors @ approximately 50% per processor.

I intend to do a full reinstall of windows and games but hoped someone might have some suggestions before hand.

Other troubleshooting included;

  • checking power settings and confirming on High Performance.
  • running MSConfig to ensure all cores are set up there(have reverted to auto)
  • disabling steam overlay
  • updated all key drivers & BIOS

Thanks in advance,

so whats the issue

Issue is, only time cpu behaves as expected is when game is not in focus, forcing me to use controller rather than keyboard and mouse, and that cpu behavior is not normal when game is in focus.

I suppose to expand on the root issue, when game is in focus, fps is unstable.

yes that would help.

would also help to know what fps you expect , what settings you run it at , what fps you are currently getting , ect...

also throw this all out if you are only measuring online gameplay as there's zero reason to expect anything online to ever be stable

i expect around ~80fps, which is achievable when game is not in focus, running at ultra 1080, when game is in focus getting between 30-50fps.

This behavior is the same in both offline and online modes.
