Hi all,

My 1080p tv (used as second monitor) is on the fritz.

And am using it as an excuse to get a large 4k tv as a replacement.

Now I do do a little gaming here and there, but mostly it will be used for streaming \ watching videos, surfing the net, and sometimes working with illustrator.

My current setup is:

i5 @ 3.0ghz

gtx 750 ti

16gb

What would be the best budget option, for a graphics card that can handle a 4k tv @ 60hz?  Ty

You can just upscale games from 1080p without issue

Do you mean what's the cheapest GPU with HDMI 2.0 out?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Yes exactly.

The cheapest GPU is like a GT 1030 or RX 550 which are all overpriced below $200 still in the US

Your CPU is still alright for 60hz gaming, though it may be useful to just jump over to a Ryzen APU potentially...

What's your Budget/Country?

Is the TV one of the TCL 4K TVs?

I'm in Canada, and my budget would be 2-3 hundred for the PC.

I'm not sure what TCL refers to. I haven't been looking too much at tvs just yet, I wanna make sure I can output properly to them first. But I heard a lot of budget 4ks won't do the trick as a monitor with bad refresh rates.

Options are R3 2200G which supports HDMI 2.0 on any board I think, which isn't any faster than the 750ti but would be lower power and quiet with a solid CPU upgrade path

Or probably just toss in an RX 560 1024 core or GTX 1050

the RX 560 is 4GB at the same price, probably go for that

Why not just run the 4k TV at 1080p? It should be able to handle it. What do you use your PC for if you don't mind me asking?

Can I do that?

Will an hdmi 1.4 cable work to broadcast 1080p to a 4k tv? I guess it probably should, but if I'm going to get a 4k tv, I might as well be able to enjoy some 4k content.

I listed what I'll be using it for already: The net, watching movies, oldskool gaming, and occasional adobe stuffs.

I'd recommend buying a Geforce 1050 Ti for 4K stuff. You should also be able to play modern games too so thats a bonus

Canada not the UK

If you wanted to save up and jump to a better GPU I'd go for an under $300 CAD sale RX 570

It's about twice as fast as the RX 560, and does very lite 4K gaming, or 1080p medium-high gaming.

Thanks man, appreciate all the help and info. Definitely gonna check out your recommendations - see what fits for me.  Also it looks like TCL will be coming to Canada in Q3 of this year. That's now : )

edi: but yeah, think I will getta rx 570 -specially if I can snag a deal.
