A friend got 3 computers from an office his father worked at. He let me use the lowest of the three due to it being the lowest performer. he gave me a Dell Optiplex 390.

Right off the bat it has an 850 EVO (i put it in), no RAM, an i3-2120, and thats it.

I'm looking to give it a bit of a boost to help it be a good performer for the time i have it while not having to do too much to it.

I was hoping to put in PNY 2x4GB DDR3 1333 (best ram option available).

But I was really wondering about CPU. The computer can ship with an i5-2400 at best, but I'd like to plug in the best possible option. I was hoping I could install an i7-2600k but i don't know if the motherboard would support it.

I found a GTX 770 for $60 on craigslist but i don't know if I would need a PSU upgrade to get it powered. I know it pairs really well with the 2120 and it should do just fine with the 2600k.

So yeah I'm pretty much just using the case and motherboard. I'd probably replace everything else. but yeah can I get some suggestions in that matter?

My profile picure is real. That's what I look like in real life. I'm actually a blue and white African Wild Dog.

figure out the model of mobo , then google the motherboard itself and you should be able to find a list of models that it was used in , one of those models might have come with an i7 at one point.

thats usually my method when dell doesn;t want to list what cpus are supported on what boards.
