Just a couple of days ago, my computer that I've been working on died I don't know necessarily what killed it I've been thinking it was the power supply. But I don't really have the hardware to test it. I'm sure as heck not putting it on another rig for at the blow it up if it is bad. But it took my motherboard and CPU with it. Luckily my Ram survived so I can pop it into another backup computer that I have and just run that for a minute. But it's just a little old dual-core Pentium and I went from a editing rig with a 12-thread xeon down to a 2 thread pentium. So I'm pretty much floating dead in the water here cuz I'm not able to edit on this rig I've already tried. But mainly what this post is for; now that you read all that; is to see if somebody on here can offer me any help in finding some processors to go into a LGA 1150 socket that can Video Edit and play games. But the thing is though I don't have that big of a budget. I know nobody on here is just going to give me a CPU but at this point everyday that my computer is down I'm losing money cuz it's part of my income to have this rig running.

At first every time I flick the power on or plugged it in the motherboard would flash for like a split second but not do anything else it wouldn't turn on, nothing.

That sounds like a dead PSU, yes. But that doesn't mean your MB is dead. It could short the psu though.(In that case the motherboard IS dead)

But we don't know that. Do you have an other PSU to test with? Maybe get a cheap one from ebay or something?(to test ofc)

Is there still warranty on the PSU, MB and CPU?

But now that I've unhooked everything. I tried another power supply and the motherboard will turn on but it won't post. I tried another processor that I had laying around that I knew worked because it came with the board when I originally bought it. Same thing. I tried different Ram and nothing as well. Not even a damn beep out of this thing. I checked the 24 pin connector and I can't see any physical damage and I check the CPU connector and the same thing I didn't see any damage. I was hoping maybe one of the solder joints broke loose. Because it is a well-used x58 board that I have a heavily overclocked Xeon that was water cooled on it. And it's been running just fine for the past few months

Well in that case, it might be the MB. Does the MB have intergrated graphics? Or do you use ane xternal graphics card? Are there any lights on the motherboard that give some pattern?(Or an Display)

Unfortunately I don't have a warranty on the motherboard and processor I do have a warranty on the power supply though because the power supply I bought brand new and I might even still have the box for it.

No integrated graphics. I've also ruled out the graphics card by putting it in another slot and also trying another graphics card. And no it's just the old beep code motherboard and on the website for the motherboard they say no beep codes stands for no RAM and I've tried every slide with like 6 different sticks

Do you by any change have a server motherboard for your PC? In that case the PSU might not be compatible at all.

I've been running this rig for months the way it's been it worked just fine up until this point and then I turned it on one morning and nothing. The power strip it's plugged into is turned off every night when I'm not using it so if lightning struck it couldn't have killed it it would kill the power strip first.

Ok weired. Because it's a Xeon I am going to assume it is some server/workstation MB. In that case, you need ECC ram. Because you say it has no beeps and that means bad ram, are you sure you have the right ram?

I know a lot of x58 boards accepted xeons with a bios update which allowed them to be overclocked. They make really good editing and gaming processors on the cheap. I've been running my rig for months

Hmm, well. I think your motherboard might be dead then. I wouldn't know what else to try.

As a last resort you can try stripping everything out of your case, and starting at the bare minimum again.(So first try just PSU, 1 ram stick, GPU, CPU, MB and see if it posts)

Then I am out of idea's.

Maybe bios battery empty?

I'd say, get a new motherboard if it's worth it.

It might be better/worth it just upgrading to a new platform altogether, e.g. Intel 8th gen or AMD Ryzen 2 gen.

8 core ryzen performs better then 12 core old xeon.

But in the main post I already said I was looking for help on finding a processor for LGA 1150 because that's all I have left. Right now I'm stuck with a dual-core Pentium that can't do jack schitt. And like I said above I know nobody on here is just going to give me an 1150 processor but I was hoping to at least get some tips on how to get one for cheaper that can game and Video Edit

Scan eBay(or your local equivilant) for cheap server parts or find someone with an old workstation and plug in an GPU.

It depend's what you call cheap, $30 ain't gonna get you a gaming pc.

im not having the best of luck with LGA 1366. So I was hoping maybe I'll be able to get out of it if anybody wants to get into a LGA 1366 I'll trade my Xeon processors and the water cooler that I have. I just really don't have the money. To be buying a whole new rig even work station at that. I've already looked on eBay the cheapest workstation that I can find that's any decent at video editing is like $150. If I had $150 I would just buy a processor for the board I have and be done with it.

Are you talking about the board from above? As I expect it to be dead.

Hmm, yeah. CPU's for that seem to be expensive, even though they are like 4th gen.

Actually, for the price of one 4th gen cpu for your MB, I can get a Ryzen cpu with MB, performing twice as fast.

You probably need to save up for a new pc, you can try selling your old parts as "Possibly damaged" or "Untested" for some money.

Yeah I think you're right. I think I just got to face the facts and just buy a whole new rig.
