Can I upgrade my CPU without having to switch my motherboard?

This may be kind of a dumb question....and I know that but I'm not sure how to find out myself so I'm going to ask anyway. With the coffee lake cpu's can I upgrade from my existing kaby lake cpu without switching my motherboard? Ive got a B250M motherboard.

What's your current CPU?

Coffee lake doesn't work in 2xx chipsets because intel said no even though it would totally work in those boards.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Should be alright for 60hz gaming

wouldn't bother upgrading to an i7 on that platform unless it's a really cheap i7 6700 or i7 7700 non K.

*Ryzen 5 significantly devalued 4c/8t i7s IMO

At least you have Ryzen 3000 in a few months

Oof that is quite the low-end chip, you could try getting a new CPU from the SkyLake lineup.

Most stores still have them new here in Belgium.

It'll be a bit less value wise but if you wanted a better value you'd need to shell out extra $ for a new motherboard.

When the PC is acting up haunted,

who ya gonna call?
"Monotone voice" : A local computer store.

*Terrible joke I know*

If he really wanted Coffee Lake, there's BIOS mods out there for it. Not the most elegant solution, though.
