Hello everyone, so i wanted to downgrade the BIOS of my Lenovo Thinkpad T440p because i need a certain feature they removed in the newer version. Lenovo has a Page for all the released Versions here:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t440p/downloads/ds037575

(Scroll down to see full list)

The problem is no matter what version i download, i get an error: (See Picture)

Any help? I am suppose to be able to downgrade the BIOS

I have even turned off the BIOS flash protection setting in the BIOS of the laptop with no luck.

What version of BIOS are you currently running on this laptop? If it's beyond version 2.44 you CANNOT downgrade it because Lenovo doesn't believe in allowing the user to fully own the hardware they've purchased want users downgrading due to "security improvements" so you're stuck with that version.

Then you cannot downgrade to anything older than 2.44 as per the latest BIOS notes found here: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/gluj38us.txt

Quote

- If the UEFI BIOS has been rolled back to version 2.47 from higher version,  CPU microcode (MCU) is also rolled back to older version than the one addressed for CVE-2017-5715.

- If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 2.44 or higher, it is no longer able to roll back to the version before 2.44 for security improvement.

- If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 2.38 or higher, it is no longer able to roll back to the version before 2.38 for security improvement.

- If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 2.35 or higher, it is no longer able to roll back to the version before 2.35 for security improvement.

- If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 2.31 or higher, it is no longer able to roll back to the version before 2.31 for security improvement.

- If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 2.26 or higher, it is no longer able to roll back to the version before 2.26 for security improvement.

- Since the UEFI BIOS version 2.24, the option for Intel Smart Connect Technology has been added into ThinkPad Setup menu (Disabled by default), and Setup Default by the F9 key will disable it. To use it, change the option to Enabled. (The UEFI BIOS version 2.23 or lower enabled it.)

- In case that your computer has been registered by ThinkVantage Hardware Password Manager with the UEFI BIOS version 2.21 (GLET67WW) or earlier, you should deregister your computer from ThinkVantage Hardware Password Manager before updating the UEFI BIOS to version 2.22 (GLET68WW) or higher. Consult your IT administrator or the manual of ThinkVantage Hardware Password Manager about how to deregister the computer.

- From 1.5.50,Intel Boot Agent doesn't support PXE option 61.

- If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 1.14 or higher, it is no longer able to roll back to the version before 1.14 for Intel BIOS Guard support.
