Let's assume I need 4 sticks of RAM. Which route would be better? Buy them in kits of 4 or buying 4 of them individually? At my place, only the higher performance(thus significantly pricier) RAMs comes in kits and the value oriented ones do not.

Also, what benefit are there in high performance RAMs compared to normal value RAMs? Does C9 matter that much over C11?

Buying it in kits ensures that the sticks work with each other. Sometimes the sticks you buy individually can be different revisions causing a conflict.

Go with the kits, the kits are factory verified to work in what config they are sold for, dual, triple, and quad. CL9 vs. CL11 is a little different, this is the latency between the chips on the RAM itself. In the end unless you are a really big power and RAM user, you're not going to see the difference.

I would buy the kits so you won't go into any compatibility issues if you buy individual ram sticks. You won't really notice a difference in reality of the different latencies unless you do benchmarks on it.

Okay, thanks for the replies guys. Guess I have to go with the more expensive stuff then. I know there are value oriented RAMs that come in kits but they arent on sale at my place. If I order online, the shipping would be more expensive than the RAMs themselves.

And, no. I won't be too picky about the performance of the RAMs. I would be using them to make a ramdisk to install one of my games. I know going with SSD is the cheaper way but I just want see how much difference does ramdisk makes.
