Cable for 240hz

Hi there,

 

My question is, my Alienware monitor is 240hz refresh rate. It came with DP to DP version 1.2 cable. However my laptop only accepts mini display port. So i was considering to buy a new dp to mini dp adapter. Would this affect the refresh rate? also any recommendations on adapters? please advise!
